Finding My Way
By Rhonda Leverett
Many years ago, I began a quest. I have searched high and low for the magic key to a successful writing career.
Over time I have collected shelves of books on the subject and the well worn state of these wise volumes attests to the impassioned cry of my heart: "Dear God, please open the heavens and pour out success." But really;
I have yearned.
I have pined away.
I have coveted my neighbor's byline and I confess to being a perpetual dreamer.
But over the past six months of working full-time hours and finally completing the first draft of my memoir, I have learned this:
If I collect all of my lovely aspirations and place them in a pretty beribboned basket and dress them up with flowers and angel dust, and lift them up toward heaven, as I often do, in my prayers, the path before me is still not guaranteed and most likely will not unveil itself in an easy manner.
While holding fast to faith, hope and trust, I have come to the conclusion that moving inside the inner circle called authorship really does involve darned hard work and perseverance.
And in my case it involves rules. These are my favorites:
PBIC - Place butt in chair
SDP - Stay, don't play.
SNTP - Say no to phones.
And here's a key for all of us dreamers:
W - Wishes only go so far.
O - Order your life around your goals.
R - Respect your dreams with your actions.
K - Keep on keeping on and never give up.
May the source of all life and energy be with you as you work hard and create your own daily portion of success!
