Grandma's House

Johanna England, August 2007 - Flash Fiction Regional Contest Winner

I yawned, slow and hard and looked around the diner. Truth be told, Grandma's mattress was no prize and nights of endless discomfort were starting to take their toll. Absentmindedly, I sipped coffee, while my obtrusive teeth chipped white ceramic. I fished in the pocket of my new, red cloak until I found the reading glasses that had been left on the nightstand. After adjusting them on my wet nose, I took a look at the menu. Nothing looked like it would agree with the terrible indigestion I've had lately. I should have never eaten Grandma.
